What an IGR actually does

The adults are not the target

The first thing to understand about a growth regulator is what it will not do. Treat a room with Gentrol on Tuesday and the adult cockroaches are still there on Wednesday, walking the same baseboard. Nothing in the can was aimed at them, and a customer watching the floor will conclude the treatment did nothing.

The target is the generation coming up behind those adults. Nymphs and larvae in the voids pick up the hydroprene, and from that point their development runs on a corrupted script. The adults you can see are already finished insects. The ones you cannot see never get to be.

A hormone the insect already uses

Immature insects carry a juvenile hormone that tells the body to keep growing rather than mature. As the insect approaches its final molts, that hormone drops away and the adult form comes in on schedule. Hydroprene reads to the insect like more of that juvenile signal, held long past the point where it should have faded.

So the insect keeps molting on instructions that no longer make sense. German cockroach nymphs exposed this way reach something adult shaped, often with twisted wings, and those insects do not reproduce. The colony keeps its old adults and gains no new breeders.

Where the material has to sit

None of this happens unless the active reaches the harborage. Cockroach nymphs spend their lives in cracks, wall voids and the warm dark behind motors, not on open counters. A regulator on the countertop is a regulator in the wrong place.

That is why the line comes in four carriers. The aerosol foam pushes into seams through the extension tube, the concentrate goes down in a tank spray along baseboards and into voids, and the point source station releases the active into a closed cabinet volume without any spraying at all.

The timeline runs in generations

A growth regulator works on the calendar of the insect, not the calendar of the person waiting. The adults present at treatment live out their span, which for a German cockroach can run months. The population falls when they die and nothing replaces them.

The practical version: expect the glue boards to show adults for weeks after application, then fewer, then mostly none. A room that looks unchanged after ten days is a room where the mechanism is working invisibly, which is exactly how it works.

What to pair it with
